Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has officially taken the oath of office as the Governor of Ondo State, alongside his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Olusola, at the Akure Sports Complex.
The event, marked by a colourful display, was attended by family members, political figures, and dignitaries from across the country. Among the notable guests were APC National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje, former Osun State Governor Chief Bisi Akande, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, and former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba.
Born on January 12, 1965, in Obe-Nla, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Governor Aiyedatiwa is an experienced businessman and politician. He assumed office as Executive Governor on December 27, 2023, following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Governor from February 24, 2021, and acted as Governor during Akeredolu’s medical absences in 2023.
In the gubernatorial election held on November 16, 2024, Aiyedatiwa secured a full term in office, winning over 366,000 votes and defeating his closest contender, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Pardon for Prisoners
As part of his inaugural actions, Governor Aiyedatiwa granted clemency to 43 prisoners, emphasising his commitment to justice and humane governance. Additionally, he commuted the death sentences of 15 condemned convicts to lesser prison terms.
