The Kremlin, by contrast, welcomed the turmoil. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mocked Zelensky, calling him an “insolent pig” who had been “properly humiliated” in the White House.

Some members of Trump’s Republican Party echoed Russian rhetoric, blaming Zelensky for the fallout.

Despite the diplomatic setback, Ukraine stood firmly behind its leader.

The country’s military chief pledged loyalty to Zelensky, while Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba praised his resilience.

Kyiv residents also voiced support. “He did what he had to do,” said Valentyn Burianov, 26, in the Ukrainian capital.
