The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Nigerian table tennis stars Aruna Quadri and Fatima Bello for securing their spots at the 2025 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Cup. The duo earned their qualification by reaching the semifinals of the ITTF Africa Cup in Tunis.
NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to nurturing sporting talent in Nigeria. Director General Bukola Olopade also commended the athletes, describing their achievement as a testament to their resilience and hard work.
These achievements are a testament to the talent, determination and hard work of our athletes and federations,” Olopade said. “At the NSC, we will continue to provide the necessary support and structure to elevate Nigerian sports to even greater heights.”
Beyond table tennis, Nigerian sports have flourished under the NSC’s leadership. The Nigerian U-19 women’s cricket team made history by securing automatic qualification for the U-19 Cricket World Cup after stunning traditional powerhouses.
Nigeria also impressed at the African Senior Badminton Championship, finishing third, while in basketball, D’Tigers mounted a stunning comeback in the AfroBasket qualifiers. After losing their first three games, the Nigerian team won their final three to clinch a spot at the 2025 tournament in Angola.
