Leverkusen Crush Frankfurt to Stay in Bundesliga Title Race

Bayer Leverkusen kept their slim Bundesliga title hopes alive with a resounding 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, reducing Bayern Munich’s lead to eight points ahead of their Champions League last-16 meeting.

After Bayern’s comeback win over Stuttgart on Friday extended their advantage to 11 points, Leverkusen responded with a ruthless display, scoring three goals in just seven minutes to take control. Nathan Tella opened the scoring in the 26th minute, latching onto a brilliant Granit Xhaka pass before slotting home. Nordi Mukiele doubled the lead three minutes later, scrambling in a loose ball in the box, and Patrik Schick made it 3-0 shortly after, converting an Alex Grimaldo cross for his 16th goal in 14 games.

Frankfurt briefly threatened a comeback when Hugo Ekitike capitalised on Mukiele’s mistake to pull one back in the 37th minute, but Leverkusen sealed the win with a stunning long-range strike from Aleix Garcia in the 63rd minute.

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso was pleased with his team’s statement win ahead of their European clash with Bayern. “It’s easy to talk, but showing it on the pitch is harder. We want to prove again that we can take the fight to Bayern,” Alonso told DAZN.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund kept their slim top-four hopes alive with a 2-0 win at St Pauli, thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi. However, RB Leipzig’s Champions League hopes took another hit as they fell 2-1 at home to Mainz, extending their poor run of just one win in eight league games.
