France is set to mobilise a new military aid package for Ukraine, valued at nearly 200 million euros, sourced from interest accrued on frozen Russian assets, according to Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
In an interview published on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Lecornu revealed that this fresh package would include vital supplies such as 155-millimetre shells and AASM air-to-surface missiles, which will be used to arm French Mirage 2000 fighter jets already provided to Ukraine.
The minister also expressed concerns over the US suspension of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, describing it as a “heavy blow” to Kyiv’s efforts against Russia’s invasion.
While Lecornu did not comment on the potential use of the frozen Russian assets themselves for Ukraine, he emphasised the importance of continued international support.
On other fronts, Lecornu highlighted Russia’s broader influence on global politics, warning that attempts to destabilise democracy and economies could extend beyond the battlefield, with the upcoming 2027 French presidential election potentially targeted by Russian interference.
