Four Killed, Nine Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Road Accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the deaths of four people in an accident that occurred on Sunday near the Alapako area of Ogunmakin along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the FRSC Ogun Sector Command, stated that the accident was caused by speed violation and a tyre burst, which resulted in a loss of control.

The crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FKJ570YE, carrying 13 passengers. According to Okpe, four people—two men and two women—lost their lives, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“FRSC operatives from the RS2.29 Ogunmakin Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Alapako,” Okpe said.

She added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS Morgue in Ipara.

Meanwhile, FRSC Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin urged motorists to remain fully attentive while driving and conduct routine vehicle checks to identify and address any defects. He also emphasised the importance of adhering to speed limits assigned to different vehicle categories.

Fasakin further encouraged fleet operators to install speed-limiting devices to enhance road safety.
