Security analyst Bulama Bukarti has raised concerns about the increasing presence of the Boko Haram terrorist group on major social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

Speaking on Channels Television, Bukarti, a senior fellow at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, highlighted that Boko Haram members are actively using TikTok to propagate their ideology through video clips and live streaming in the Hausa language.

He stated that they host live programmes to justify their violence, answer audience questions, and engage with comments.

Bukarti’s revelation comes shortly after Senator Ali Ndume reported significant losses in Borno State due to Boko Haram attacks.

The analyst himself was recently targeted in a 10-minute TikTok video by a Boko Haram member for speaking out against the group’s escalating violence.

Bukarti also highlighted other worrying developments, including Boko Haram’s alleged use of unmanned drones for surveillance of military formations in the northeast.

He further noted a surge in attacks on Nigerian military super camps in recent months, where insurgents have reportedly overrun camps, dispersed troops, caused casualties, and stolen supplies.
