Abia to Convert New Government House into Five-Star Hotel

The Abia State government has stated that the newly commissioned Government House, inaugurated by the previous administration just a day before the handover, is deficient in essential facilities and is situated in a private residential area, which could pose various security risks to the governor.

As a result, the state administration announced that the massive building will now be repurposed into a five-star hotel.

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, shared this information on Thursday while guiding journalists through the premises. He noted that the Government House structure lacks a working elevator and that the upper floors are in disarray and missing necessary amenities.

“This place is not habitable, and if you look around the Government House where it is situated, you will see many private buildings around here looking into this place.

“From the point of security, it is not even ideal for the Governor to live in, and it could pose a serious security risk for the Governor, assuming he were to live here.

“The government of the day has decided to turn this place into a five-star hotel. The reason is that this place was not well built”, Kanu said.

Kanu pointed out that only the first floor of the Government House was completed and furnished, while the upper levels revealed numerous structural issues, despite the substantial public funds invested in the construction.

He refuted the claims made by former Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, who had alleged that Governor Alex Otti was using propaganda against the previous administration led by Okezie Ikpeazu.
