Barcelona secured their sixth consecutive Liga F championship with a decisive 9-0 victory against Real Betis on Sunday, further solidifying their stronghold on Spanish women’s football.
The Catalan team, aiming to replicate their quadruple trophy haul from the previous season, have demonstrated strong form recently, including a significant win over Chelsea that propelled them to the Champions League final.
Barcelona now holds a six-point lead over second-place Real Madrid, who drew 1-1 with Tenerife. With one league match remaining, Barcelona has successfully defended their title.
Despite not maintaining their peak performance throughout the entire season, having lost two games compared to their undefeated record last year, this title race was the closest in recent memory.
However, Barcelona concluded the season impressively in Seville, with Claudia Pina scoring three goals. Ewa Pajor and Alexia Putellas each scored twice, while Esmee Brugts and Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati also contributed to the dominant win.
This marks Barcelona’s tenth Spanish league title. Real Madrid provided a strong challenge this season, even achieving their first victory against Barcelona in March after 18 consecutive losses.
Barcelona, who have already won the Spanish Super Cup, will now compete against Arsenal in Lisbon for the Champions League final, seeking their third consecutive title in the competition. Following that, they will face Atletico Madrid in the Copa de la Reina final on June 7.
