At least 76,000 people have fled intense fighting in Yemen since July, with displacement figures quadrupling over the past week alone, according to a United Nations report on Saturday.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) warned of an escalating crisis as combat between Iran-backed Houthi rebels and government forces drives thousands of families from their homes across Taiz and the west coast.
Over 70,000 people fled within the first two weeks of September alone following a major Houthi offensive and maritime blockade.
The military push allowed Houthi forces to capture Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and secure control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical shipping route for regional oil exports.
The heavy clashes have struck Taiz province hardest, where nearly 50,000 residents have abandoned their homes, many escaping at night with few personal belongings.

UN relief teams are distributing emergency shelter and hygiene kits on the ground, but officials caution that aid resources are rapidly falling short as civilian displacement continues to surge.
