Trump Hints at Flying to Turkey for Ukraine-Russia Talks

US President Donald Trump has indicated he is considering travelling to Turkey on Thursday to potentially participate in talks between Ukraine and Russia regarding their ongoing conflict, which began with Russia’s invasion over three years ago.

Speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for a trip to the Middle East, Trump said he was contemplating the trip, suggesting it could be worthwhile if he believed progress could be made.

“I think you may have a good result out of the Thursday meeting in Turkey between Russia and Ukraine, and I believe the two leaders are going to be there,” he stated.

When questioned about potential sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin rejects a 30-day ceasefire, Trump expressed optimism, saying, “I have a feeling they’re going to agree. I do. I have a feeling.”

The potential for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, the first since the initial stages of the 2022 invasion, has been met with positive responses from both Washington and European nations.

The war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions of displaced people, with Russia now controlling approximately one-fifth of Ukraine, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
