Operations were suspended at Belgium’s second-largest airport on Tuesday following a bomb alert on an aircraft, the airport’s operating company confirmed.
The bomb threat was triggered shortly before 11:00 am (0900 GMT) on a plane that had just landed at Charleroi Airport, according to a spokeswoman for the airport operator.

“A security perimeter was set up around the aircraft, which led to the closure of the runway and the suspension of all operations,” the spokeswoman told AFP. “The relevant authorities have now taken charge of the situation.”
Located south of Brussels, Charleroi Airport is a key European hub for low-cost airline Ryanair.
