Victor Osimhen delivered a historic performance on Wednesday night, scoring twice to lead Galatasaray to a commanding 3–0 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final—and, in the process, etching his name into the record books.

The Nigerian striker, who entered the match with 33 goals for the season, needed just two more to surpass the long-standing record of 34 goals in a single campaign by a foreign player, set by Brazil’s Mario Jardel in the 2000–01 season. Osimhen rose to the occasion in style, finding the net in the 46th and 63rd minutes to reach an incredible tally of 35 goals across all competitions.

Baris Yilmaz opened the scoring for Galatasaray in just the fifth minute, converting a clever pass from Yunus Akgün to give the Istanbul giants an early lead. But the night belonged to Osimhen.

His first goal came immediately after halftime—a precise, low-driven shot from the edge of the area that beat the Trabzonspor goalkeeper at the far post. Seventeen minutes later, he doubled his tally with a moment of brilliance: a deft turn inside the box followed by a curling strike into the top corner.

With the brace, Osimhen not only shattered Jardel’s record but also moved up Galatasaray’s all-time list of top-scoring foreign players. His 35 goals in just 38 appearances now place him above Jardel, though he still trails seven other international greats in the club’s history. Romania’s Gheorghe Hagi remains at the top of that list with 72 goals.

The Turkish Cup triumph marks Galatasaray’s 19th title in the competition—extending their national record—and they now stand on the brink of securing a domestic double. A win against Kayserispor on Sunday would seal their 25th league championship and complete their first league-and-cup double since the 1998–99 season.
