NNPP Disowns Statement Linking Kwankwaso to APC Realignment

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has firmly denied reports suggesting that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is considering a return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, issued a statement over the weekend dismissing the circulating claims as false and politically motivated. He described the purported press release—allegedly credited to Senator Kwankwaso—as the work of “mischief makers” intent on spreading misinformation and causing confusion within the political landscape.

The alleged statement had claimed that President Bola Tinubu had approached the former Kano State governor with an invitation to rejoin the APC, which Kwankwaso reportedly turned down due to his political beliefs and dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s policies. However, Johnson stressed that no such remarks were ever made by the NNPP leader.

He noted that the widely circulated statement was “a hatchet narrative with negative political objectives” and insisted it had failed in its attempt to sway public opinion. Johnson emphasised that the NNPP is not engaged in any political realignments and reiterated that the comments attributed to Kwankwaso did not originate from him.

Johnson also revealed that Senator Kwankwaso has intentionally chosen not to comment on current political developments and will maintain that position for the foreseeable future. The NNPP urged members of the public and the media to rely solely on verified information released through Kwankwaso’s official communication channels and recognised party sources, warning against the spread of unverified and misleading content online.
