Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League success was celebrated by an estimated 150,000 jubilant fans during a lively open-top bus parade through north London on Friday.
Ange Postecoglou’s team clinched a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday, ending a 17-year wait for silverware at the club.
Brennan Johnson’s early strike secured Spurs’ first European trophy in 41 years, providing a bright moment in an otherwise difficult Premier League season.
The squad travelled on a white double-decker bus adorned with ‘Europa League winners’ as they made an emotional journey to their home ground.
Supporters thronged the streets, chanting “glory, glory Tottenham Hotspur” as the bus passed by.
Captain Son Heung-min proudly lifted the trophy high from the bus’s top deck, while teammates showed off their winners’ medals and Postecoglou greeted the fans.
The celebration, expected to last around 90 minutes, drew one of the biggest crowds for a Spurs parade in decades.
Following their return from Bilbao, the players were seen celebrating late into the night at a London nightclub.
Defender Micky van de Ven reflected on the occasion, saying, “Unbelievable, man. I’ve hardly slept since. It was so emotional. The season’s been tough, but winning the trophy has made us so happy. I’m so proud of the team. When you go through something like this, you want to do it all over again. We’ll aim for more next season.”
This marked Spurs’ first trophy parade since their 1991 FA Cup victory, with the last piece of silverware won in the 2008 League Cup.
Despite currently sitting 17th in the Premier League, just above the relegation zone, former Tottenham player Graham Roberts — who won the 1984 UEFA Cup with the club—believes the team will now push for further honours.
“This win will boost their confidence. All the pressure is lifted,” Roberts said.
“We need to strengthen the squad, but the players have great spirit. They adore Ange; they surrounded him, hugged him, and wanted photos with him. The team spirit is strong.
“We’ll win more trophies now. Wednesday was one of the greatest nights I’ve seen. I had tears in my eyes. The fans were incredible — they truly deserved it.”
