Liverpool claimed their record-equalling 20th league title, with relegation for Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton already confirmed beforehand. Attention centred on the battle for Europe’s top competition places.
Liverpool and Arsenal had previously secured the top two spots, guaranteeing their Champions League participation, while Tottenham will join the competition by winning the Europa League on Wednesday.
Manchester City ensured a respectable finish despite a disappointing campaign by beating Fulham 2-0, sealing third place and qualifying for the Champions League for the 15th straight season.
Ilkay Gundogan’s close-range overhead kick opened the scoring before Erling Haaland added a penalty to secure victory.
Chelsea crushed Nottingham Forest’s hopes of reaching the Champions League for the first time since their European triumph in 1980.
Levi Colwill’s tap-in from Pedro Neto’s cross earned Chelsea a 1-0 win at the City Ground, securing fourth place. Forest must settle for seventh and a UEFA Conference League spot.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s chances of overtaking Newcastle were dashed by a controversial 2-0 loss at Manchester United.
Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez was sent off just before halftime for fouling Rasmus Hojlund outside the box.
Although Villa believed Morgan Rogers scored a legitimate goal, it was disallowed for handling, a decision upheld by VAR.
Moments later, Amad Diallo headed in for United, with Christian Eriksen’s penalty confirming the win. Villa’s sixth-place finish secured them a Europa League berth.
At Anfield, a mutual guard of honour took place as Crystal Palace honoured Liverpool, who reciprocated after the Eagles’ recent FA Cup victory over City.
This was the first time in 35 years Liverpool could celebrate a league title trophy with their fans in attendance, following the pandemic restrictions in 2020.

Palace spoiled Liverpool’s celebrations by taking an early lead through Ismaila Sarr after nine minutes. Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the second half, but the Reds held on for a draw thanks to a deflected equaliser by Mohamed Salah.
Tottenham suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Brighton, following their Europa League celebrations, finishing 17th after 22 league losses this season. Brighton’s goals came from Jack Hinshelwood (two), Matt O’Riley (penalty), and Diego Gomez.
Elsewhere, Arsenal secured an 89th-minute winner from Martin Ødegaard to beat bottom club Southampton.
West Ham defeated Ipswich 3-1, Leicester lost 2-0 at Bournemouth, and Wolves and Brentford played out a 1-1 draw.
