Liverpool‘s midfielder Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed heartfelt gratitude to supporters of the club on Sunday, saying he had “never felt so loved” after receiving a warm send-off during his final match at Anfield.
The 25-year-old full-back, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, came off the bench in the second half of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace — the team’s last Premier League fixture of the campaign.
This time, unlike his previous home appearance where he was jeered following the announcement of his impending exit, Alexander-Arnold was met with cheers and applause.
The reception marked a sharp turnaround in sentiment from fans who had once questioned his decision to leave.
Following the final whistle, the Anfield faithful honoured the academy graduate as he helped lift the Premier League trophy, symbolising the club’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
As he stood before the famous Kop, Alexander-Arnold waved to the crowd, kissed the Liverpool badge on his shirt, and received a thunderous ovation.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he admitted he had been uncertain about how the crowd would react.
“I didn’t know what kind of reception I would get after everything that happened a few weeks back,” he said. “I just wanted one last chance to play in front of these fans, and I’m grateful Arne Slot gave me that opportunity. The way the crowd responded meant everything to me.”
He went on to say, “I’ve played so many matches for Liverpool, but today I felt more loved and appreciated than ever before. I hope one day the fans understand the effort I’ve put in. Every second I’ve been here, my focus has been on the team.”
Reflecting on his two decades at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold described it as a journey filled with highs and lows. “It’s been a long 20 years, but every moment has been worth it,” he said. “This has been an honour—a privilege. Today is something I’ll always cherish. It’s the greatest day of my life.”
Alexander-Arnold is widely expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, bringing to a close his 20-year spell at his boyhood club.
