250 Million Bees Escape After US Lorry Crash, Police Warn Public

Authorities in the United States have issued urgent warnings after a lorry accident released around 250 million bees into the open, prompting concerns of swarming in the state of Washington.

The incident occurred when a lorry transporting numerous hives overturned in Whatcom County, located in the far northwest of the country, near the Canadian border and just 30 miles south of Vancouver.

“250 million bees are now loose,” the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office announced on social media, urging the public to “AVOID THE AREA due to the potential of bee escaping and swarming.”

Road closures have been enforced in the affected area while beekeeping specialists are working to recover the insects and ensure public safety.
