Wike Warns Coalition Against Exploiting Nigerians

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong warning to the newly formed opposition coalition, urging them to stop exploiting Nigerians for their personal interests.

Wike made this statement during his monthly media interaction held at his official residence in Abuja on Thursday. He expressed that the recent alliance by certain political figures, who have adopted the African Democratic Party (ADC) as their platform, does not serve the genuine interests of the Nigerian populace.

“Because you have issues with someone, you say Nigerians are angry, and then you go ahead and form a coalition. Please let’s take the issues of Nigeria seriously.

“I challenge all of them to show their scorecards. When they were at the helm of affairs, what did they do to better the country?” he asked.

Regarding the ongoing teachers’ strike in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike explained that he cannot directly resolve the issue. He clarified that the substantial sum owed to the teachers is the responsibility of the area councils, not the FCT administration itself.

Wike stated that he has taken various measures, including seizing the 10% internally generated revenue allocated to the area councils. However, he emphasised that his direct influence is limited because the outstanding amount owed to the teachers is estimated to be a staggering N18 billion.
