Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Rabat on Sunday, voicing strong opposition to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and urging the Moroccan government to cancel its normalisation agreement with Israel.
The rally unfolded in the heart of the capital, with marchers waving Palestinian flags and carrying banners calling for urgent humanitarian access to the besieged territory. Chants rang out across the city centre, including slogans such as “It’s a disgrace, Gaza is under fire,” “Lift the blockade,” and “Morocco, Palestine, one people.” Many also condemned the kingdom’s diplomatic ties with Israel, shouting “No to normalisation.”
The demonstration was organised by a broad alliance of groups, including the Islamist organisation Al-Adl Wal-Ihssane and several leftist parties. Their unified message was clear: Morocco must stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and speak out against the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.

The protest comes as the Israeli bombardment continues into its 22nd month. Over two million people in Gaza are enduring severe conditions, with widespread displacement and shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. Aid workers and doctors report increasing levels of acute malnutrition and psychological trauma among the population.
One protester, Jamal Behar, described the situation as intolerable. “Palestinians are being starved and killed before the eyes of the whole world,” he said. “It is our duty to denounce this dramatic, unbearable situation.”
The mounting civilian toll in Gaza has led to growing discontent within Morocco over its diplomatic engagement with Israel. In 2020, the kingdom formalised relations with Israel through a US-brokered deal, a move that has faced renewed backlash as the Israeli killings drag on with no resolution in sight.
As the Israeli bombardment continues, voices in Morocco calling for an end to the normalisation agreement and increased support for the Palestinian cause appear to be growing louder and more unified.
