Gunmen Attack Anambra PDP Guber Candidate

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into the attempted assassination of Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming November 2025 Anambra election.

Gunmen attacked Ezenwafor on Friday night near Wuse 2, Abuja, as he returned from an engagement. They shot him in both legs. Two other individuals also sustained injuries during the attack.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command had yet to conclude its investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.

Ezenwafor, who emerged unopposed as the PDP’s candidate, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital, where doctors are preparing to remove bullets lodged in his legs.

Shortly after the attack, videos showing Ezenwafor’s injuries surfaced on a PDP Anambra campaign forum. In one of the clips, the politician expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life.

An aide to Ezenwafor, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details. “Yes, it happened, but I would rather not speak on it for now,” the aide said.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation from political allies and support groups.

Reacting to the development, Chinedu Nsofor, a senatorial aspirant in the August 16 Anambra South bye-election, condemned the incident and offered prayers for peace in the country.

“I pray for divine intervention in our land. May the Almighty protect every sincere leader and candidate from the snare of the wicked,” Nsofor said. “May Nigeria rise again with a new order of safety, unity, and progress.”
