A training fighter jet from Bangladesh fell onto a school in the capital city of Dhaka on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 individuals and injuring many others, marking the worst aviation disaster in the country in decades.
An AFP photographer present at the scene observed emergency responders transporting injured students on stretchers while military personnel assisted in removing the debris.
According to a statement from the military, 19 individuals lost their lives, including the pilot, with 20 others sustaining critical injuries.
As reported by Mohammad Nasir Uddin, the Director of Dhaka’s National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, at least 51 individuals, primarily students, were receiving medical care.
The Chinese-made F-7 BJI aircraft crashed shortly after students were dismissed from class at 1:00 PM (0700 GMT) at Milestone School and College.

One witness reported hearing a massive explosion that felt akin to an earthquake. This crash stands as the most severe aviation incident in the country in many years.
The worst disaster in history occurred in 1984 when a plane travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka went down, resulting in the loss of all 49 passengers on board.
Last month, a commercial plane crashed in neighbouring India, claiming the lives of 260 people.
