Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up on the tense hours surrounding the Osun State governorship election, revealing just how close the state came to descending into chaos.
In an exclusive interview with Newscentral TV on Tuesday, Davido painted a chilling picture of what could have gone wrong.
“If you saw the cash these people brought to the election that day,” he said, “if they had gotten away with that election, Nigeria would have been finished by now because the blueprint of Nigerian elections would have been violence and vote buying.”
The singer quickly contrasted it with his uncle’s campaign. “We didn’t spend a dime on Election Day,” he insisted, framing the win as a rare victory for a cleaner electoral process in a system he suggested is otherwise plagued by cash-driven manipulation.

Davido also lifted the lid on the political pressure that followed his outspoken reaction online, revealing that two of Nigeria’s most powerful figures reached out personally.
“Akpabio and Aliko Dangote called me to delete my tweet,” he said, a detail that underscores just how high the stakes, and the attention, had risen around the contest.
Turning reflective, the singer credited his uncle’s victory to resilience against a stacked deck.
“With all odds against us, my uncle still won,” he said, adding that he hopes the outcome sets a precedent. “My uncle should be an example to other governors.”
He closed on a personal note, crediting his father’s devotion for carrying the family through the uncertainty.
