Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commissioned the 12.1-kilometre Egwi-Afam Road, saying his administration completed the project despite political challenges.
Fubara spoke while commissioning the road project on Tuesday, recalling that it began in 2024 and continued despite disputes surrounding his administration.
“To the glory of God, we flagged up this project in 2024. And even while we were still having issues, the project was still ongoing. And when we came in, we ensured that this project was completed,” he said.
The governor attributed the road’s completion to God and said the project met required standards.
He said his administration was determined to leave a lasting impact through projects that address residents’ needs.
“It takes only a government administration who understand the need of the people, who also desire to put a mark wherever it steps its foot on,” Fubara said.

“So I’ve put our mark in a chair today. And our mark will continue to be here.”
Fubara also commended the local government chairman for his efforts to improve infrastructure and security in the area.
He described governance as providing essential services and protecting lives and property, while acknowledging that no administration could solve every problem.
“What is governance all about? Governance is providing services, protection of life and property. Governance is, you can’t solve every problem, but you must try to meet the needs of the people,” he said.
The governor also responded to requests made by the Council of Chiefs and residents, cautioning that the limited time left in his administration would make it difficult to fulfil every demand.
“I have only one appeal to make, and the appeal is we have a very limited time. Because of that, I can’t stand here and promise you everything,” he said.
Fubara said he was confident his successor would continue and complete projects initiated by his administration.
“I believe strongly that my successor will do whatever we have started and complete it for you,” he said.
