India mounted a strong comeback in the fifth and final Test against England at the Oval on Friday, thanks to impressive bowling performances from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who each took three wickets.
After India was bowled out for 224, England’s openers Zak Crawley (64) and Ben Duckett (43) raced to a formidable 92-run partnership, threatening to build a significant first-innings lead.
However, India fought back, with Siraj and Krishna leading the charge. Krishna’s two wickets in the final over before tea saw England slump from 129-1 to 215-7.
The contest has been marked by a series of contentious moments. An incident occurred when India’s Akash Deep had Duckett caught behind and appeared to speak to the batsman as he walked off, prompting India’s KL Rahul to intervene.
This followed previous tension in the series, including India’s captain Shubman Gill accusing England of time-wasting and England’s frustration over India’s decision to bat on in the previous Test rather than declaring for a draw.

Crawley was dismissed for a blistering 64, with 56 of his runs coming in boundaries, after miscuing a pull shot off Krishna. Siraj then claimed the wickets of Joe Root (29) and Jacob Bethell, while Krishna removed Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton, the latter for a duck.
Earlier in the day, England’s paceman Gus Atkinson marked his return from a hamstring injury with a superb five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5-33.
He helped restrict India’s overnight score of 204-6 to a final total of 224, taking the last four wickets for just 20 runs.
India, who must win this match to draw the series 2-2, opted not to play their top-ranked bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, in the match to protect a back injury.
England also faced a setback, with Chris Woakes effectively ruled out of the rest of the match due to a shoulder injury.
