OpenAI adds that GPT-5 integrates and surpasses its prior innovations, including GPT-4o, the o-series reasoning models, agent capabilities, and complex mathematical functions into a cohesive engine designed to revolutionise business operations, innovation, and problem-solving.

Major corporations such as BNY Mellon, California State University, Figma, Intercom, Lowe’s, Morgan Stanley, SoftBank, and T-Mobile have reportedly begun to deploy GPT-enabled tools across different departments, according to OpenAI.

The company also noted that over 5 million users currently subscribe to ChatGPT’s business offerings.

OpenAI outlines several significant improvements with GPT-5, including quicker and more precise responses; better context awareness and ability to resolve ambiguities; more advanced reasoning and structured problem-solving capabilities; and improved API performance for developing agent-based applications.

This release happens at a pivotal moment for the AI sector. The largest AI firms—Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft (which supports OpenAI) have significantly ramped up capital investments in AI data centres, fueling investor optimism for substantial returns. Collectively, these four companies anticipate spending close to $400 billion in total this fiscal year.

OpenAI is currently engaged in preliminary discussions about allowing employees to cash out at a $500 billion valuation, representing a notable increase from its existing $300 billion valuation. Leading AI researchers are now being offered signing bonuses of up to $100 million.
