The Israeli military has approved the “framework” for an extensive occupation of the Gaza Strip, days after the security cabinet authorised the seizure of Gaza City.

While a specific timeline for the full invasion and occupation of the Palestinian city has not been announced, Israeli bombardment on Gaza City’s civilian neighbourhoods has recently intensified.

The Israeli Occupation Force’s decision to move forward with the invasion plan comes as a Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo for preliminary truce talks with Egyptian officials.

The proposed expansion of the occupation has been met with both international outcry and domestic opposition, particularly as UN-backed experts continue to warn of a growing famine in the territory due to aid restrictions.
