Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal as they defeated Port Vale 2-0, advancing to the fourth round of the League Cup, joining Manchester City, Tottenham, and Newcastle on Wednesday.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta showcased the depth of his roster by making nine changes from the previous Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, including Eze, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.

The England international has had a remarkable beginning following his transfer from Crystal Palace last month, which could total up to £68 million ($92 million). Eze scored early, taking advantage of Myles Lewis-Skelly’s flick to put Arsenal ahead within just eight minutes.

“I’ve been waiting to score for this club for a long time and the first is very special,” said Eze, who Arsenal released as a teenager.

Despite controlling the match, the visitors were unable to extend their lead.

Devante Cole, the son of ex-Manchester United forward Andy Cole, came closest to levelling for Vale when his shot sailed just over the bar. Leandro Trossard sealed the victory with a powerful and accurate strike into the bottom corner five minutes before the final whistle. Arsenal will face Brighton in the next round.
