Former Barcelona and Spain star Sergio Busquets announced on Thursday that he will hang up his boots at the conclusion of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.

The 37-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Inter Miami shared this news through a social media post.

“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” Busquets said in a video on his Instagram page.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”

Known for his elegance, skill, and composure on the ball, Busquets is often considered one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time.

He played a vital role in securing nine La Liga titles for Barcelona and contributed to the team’s victories in three Champions League competitions.

Busquets was part of the Spain squad that triumphed in the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship, earning 143 caps for the national team.

He stepped away from international play following the 2022 World Cup and relocated to the United States in 2023 to join his former Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi, at Inter Miami.
