Liverpool’s perfect start to the Premier League season ended on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace, who are now the only undefeated team remaining.
After taking an early lead through Ismaila Sarr, Palace looked set to be denied a win when Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa scored a late equaliser in the 87th minute.
However, Nketiah sealed the shock victory for Palace with a composed finish in stoppage time. The win moves Palace up to second place, three points behind Liverpool.
Setbacks for Man Utd and Chelsea
Manchester United suffered another setback, losing 3-1 at Brentford after a disastrous defensive performance that extended manager Ruben Amorim’s wait for back-to-back league wins.
Brentford’s Igor Thiago scored twice in the first half after defensive errors. While Benjamin Sesko netted his first goal for United, the team’s chances were severely hampered when Bruno Fernandes missed a second-half penalty.
Brentford’s victory was sealed in stoppage time by Mathias Jensen.
Elsewhere, Chelsea was undone by a red card for the second week in a row, falling 3-1 to Brighton.
After leading at halftime, the game flipped when Trevoh Chalobah was sent off in the 53rd minute. Brighton took advantage, with Danny Welbeck scoring the equaliser and then netting a second in stoppage time, along with a goal from Maxim De Cuyper.
Man City Thumps Burnley
Manchester City, meanwhile, cruised to a 5-1 victory over Burnley.
City were helped by two unfortunate own goals from Burnley defender Maxime Esteve.
After Burnley briefly levelled the score through Jadon Anthony, City pulled ahead with a strike from Matheus Nunes.
Star striker Erling Haaland scored twice in added time, bringing his season tally to 15 goals.
