Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has left New York, United States, after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80).
According to a statement on Sunday, September 28, by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President is now travelling to Germany for strategic meetings with officials of Deutsche Bank aimed at exploring partnership opportunities and interventions in Nigeria’s development initiatives.
Nkwocha noted that during his participation at UNGA 80, Shettima secured the commendation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria’s campaign for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
He also presented Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunities to global investors and strengthened strategic partnerships with the United Kingdom on trade, defence, and migration.

While delivering President Tinubu’s national statement, the Vice President called for UN reforms and a permanent seat for Nigeria on the Security Council.
He further advocated for African control over its $700 billion mineral wealth and pushed for digital inclusion initiatives.
Shettima also engaged with the Gates Foundation on expanding healthcare and education access, positioning Nigeria as a central hub for the $3.4 trillion African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) market.
The statement added that cabinet ministers and officials of the Nigerian Mission saw Shettima off at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
He is expected to return to Nigeria immediately after completing his engagements in Germany.
