New data uncovered by Channel 4 reveals that Britain supplied over 110,000 bullets to Israel in August, even as the destruction in Gaza continued.

The investigation revealed that one delivery was officially classified under Israel’s customs system as “bullets”. At the same time, other consignments included components for tanks, parts of rifles and shotguns, and a general category covering explosives, projectiles, and ammunition.

Analysts noted that in June alone, weapons and munitions worth approximately £400,000 were imported from Britain, the largest single-month total since records began more than three years ago.

The revelations come despite the UK government’s suspension of 29 export licences to Israel in September 2024 over concerns that some weapons might be used in breaches of international humanitarian law.

However, more than 350 licences remain valid, with over 160 directly linked to military use. At the time, ministers had pledged to restrict the transfer of arms likely to be deployed in Gaza.

The disclosure follows a motion passed by Britain’s Labour Party recognising the United Nations’ conclusion that Israel is carrying out genocide in Gaza, a position at odds with the government’s refusal to use the term.

Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children.

The ongoing bombardment has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, left much of the territory uninhabitable, and caused widespread hunger and disease.
