The Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) confirmed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has paid off all money owed to healthcare providers, a key action that ensures enrollees maintain uninterrupted access to affordable healthcare.
Acting Director of FHIS, Dr Salamatu Belgore, disclosed this in Abuja, explaining that payments covering arrears from 2022 to 2024 were fully settled under Wike’s leadership, with support from the Mandate Secretary of Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, and the Permanent Secretary of FHIS, Dr Babagana Adam.
Dr Belgore said the development has boosted the confidence of service providers, ensuring that residents can continue to access reliable and quality healthcare.
She noted that alongside the debt clearance, the scheme has embraced digital reforms, allowing enrollees to register, switch healthcare providers, and add dependents online from their homes.
Dr Belgore further explained that claims management has also been digitised to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in service delivery.
To improve visibility, FHIS has mounted new signposts at its seven zonal offices across the six area councils and its headquarters, while also reactivating radio programmes and sensitisation campaigns to raise awareness about the scheme’s benefits.
