American tennis player Amanda Anisimova secured her second title of the year and fourth career trophy at the China Open on Sunday, defeating Linda Noskova in a demanding three-set final with a score of 6−0,2−6,6−2.
The third-seeded American overcame a second-set wobble to seal the win in one hour and 46 minutes at Beijing’s WTA 1000 event.
The triumph comes just a month after Anisimova reached the US Open final, where she fell to world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
“It’s been an incredible few weeks,” Anisimova said after lifting the trophy. “I was riding on a lot of confidence because I’ve had a great year so far.”
She became the third American to win the China Open, following Coco Gauff last year and 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.
Despite battling ongoing foot and calf pain that nearly forced her withdrawal, Anisimova started the final dominantly, winning the opening set in just 23 minutes without conceding a game.
Noskova, contesting her first WTA 1000 final, fought back in the second set to take it 6-2 before Anisimova regained control in the decider, breaking for a 4-2 lead and finishing with a winner on match point.
“Amanda is an amazing player,” said Noskova. “She comes after every point that she possibly can… sometimes it’s just hard to come up with any plan.”
Anisimova’s stellar year has also seen her finish runner-up at Wimbledon and climb from world number 43 at this time last year to fourth in the rankings. She will make her debut at the season-ending WTA Finals.
Earlier in Beijing, Anisimova ousted second seed Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals, while Noskova, starting the tournament as world number 27, praised the unexpected run to the final.
The match marked only the second WTA 1000 final featuring players born in the 2000s.
