Barcelona forwards Raphinha and Fermin Lopez each scored twice as the Spanish champions launched their La Liga campaign with a dominant 5-0 victory over Elche on Sunday.
Debutant Anthony Gordon added spark off the bench, providing two assists to ensure Barcelona kept pace following Real Madrid’s victory a day earlier.
Playing as the central striker following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, Raphinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Victor Chust brought him down in the box.
Raphinha then set up fellow debutant Karim Adeyemi to double the lead before halftime, easing the pressure on manager Hansi Flick, who rested several regulars after the World Cup.
Barcelona continued their onslaught in the second half as Gordon set up Raphinha’s second goal and Lopez’s first.

Xavi Espart then played in Lopez for his second strike to seal the win.
Despite occasional lapses in Barcelona’s high defensive line, goalkeeper Joan Garcia produced key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
