Ronaldo Nears Historic 1,000-Goal Mark

Portugal and Al Nassr striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, is edging closer to becoming the first male footballer to score 1,000 career goals.

According to Sky Sports on Wednesday, the 40-year-old forward recently netted twice against Hungary in the World Cup qualifiers, taking his career tally to 948 goals — 805 at club level and 143 for Portugal.

Ronaldo also became the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifying history, overtaking Carlos Ruiz’s record of 39 goals, while Lionel Messi ranks third with 36.

Despite playing in Saudi Arabia’s less competitive league, Ronaldo has maintained outstanding form, scoring 104 goals in 117 appearances over four seasons with Al Nassr.

In 2025 alone, he has already scored 32 goals across club and international fixtures, continuing a streak of remarkable consistency. Since 2010, he has averaged over 50 goals per year, with his best year coming in 2013 when he struck 69 times to win the Ballon d’Or.

With Portugal expected to qualify for next summer’s World Cup and two years remaining on his Al Nassr contract, projections suggest Ronaldo could reach the unprecedented 1,000-goal milestone by October 2026 if he maintains his current scoring rate.
