A female officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Akpevwe Ogboru, has successfully completed an extraordinary 72-day motorbike expedition from Nigeria to Belgium and back, marking a historic achievement within the Service.
Ogboru began her adventure on August 1, 2025 and returned on Saturday, October 11, 2025, the NCS confirmed in a statement.
She was warmly received at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post by senior customs officials, including Comptroller Wale Adenuga, the host Area Controller, alongside other top officers from Zone A.
Reflecting on her cross-continental journey, which covered 22 countries across Africa and Europe, Ogboru said:
“It’s been 72 days in 22 countries, and I’m glad to be back. I always stayed positive despite the challenges. Whenever the bike developed issues, I handled them calmly and kept moving.”

She explained that her mission was to promote women’s empowerment and inclusivity, urging young women to pursue their dreams with determination.
“This ride was for women’s inclusivity and the empowerment of the girl-child. Be strong and focused. Don’t let anyone discourage you,” she added.
Ogboru fondly referred to her motorcycle, ‘Rocky,’ as a symbol of endurance and resilience, noting that her journey aimed to foster stronger Africa–Europe ties and mutual development.
“Africa and Europe can achieve more together. I hope this journey inspires cooperation and growth on both sides,” she said.
Comptroller Adenuga commended Ogboru’s courage, describing her accomplishment as a testament to the leadership vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs.
“She has put Nigeria on the global stage with this achievement. Her feat reflects the Service’s spirit of excellence and innovation,” he remarked.
Ogboru’s successful expedition makes her the first female customs officer in Nigeria to embark on and complete such a transcontinental motorbike adventure, earning her widespread admiration within and beyond the Service.
