Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite will require a hamstring operation, ruling him out for an extended period.

The 23-year-old has not yet played under David Moyes this season after picking up an injury during pre-season.

Initially described as a ‘minor niggle’ in July, the England international has suffered a setback and now needs surgery.

Everton confirmed, “Following specialist consultation, the defender will undergo surgery to address the issue. Branthwaite will begin a structured rehabilitation programme under the club’s medical team once the operation is complete.”

Branthwaite drew interest from several clubs over the summer, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, before committing to a new five-year deal with Everton.

The former Carlisle United defender has also had loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Dutch Cup in the 2022-23 season.
