The Osun State Government has officially appointed Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
According to the government, the initiative aims to mobilise funds to revitalise and modernise the state’s sports sector.
The administration also reaffirmed its commitment to completing the renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the upgraded facility will meet Olympic standards upon completion.
As reported by The Guardian Nigeria, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the appointment and stressed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is determined to transform the stadium into a world-class venue capable of hosting both national and international competitions.
He said, “The renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is progressing well and will be completed soon.
“We are also in the advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. The Sports Trust Fund will attract contributions from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable funding and growth.”
Adewusi added that Davido accepted the appointment without hesitation, noting that his involvement is expected to attract substantial investments that will significantly boost sports development in Osun State.
