Court Clears PDP for Oyo Convention

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has permitted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to move forward with its planned elective National Convention on November 15 and 16, 2025.

Justice A. L. Akintola issued a ruling granting an interim order that allows the party to conduct the convention as scheduled in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The court instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate, monitor, and observe the event pending the hearing and resolution of the substantive motion on notice. This ruling was issued in response to an ex parte application filed by Folahan Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Governor Umaru Fintiri (representing the National Convention Organising Committee); and INEC.

The claimant, Adelabi, requested the court to prevent the defendants from interrupting, hindering, or obstructing the timetable, guidelines, and activities leading up to the convention.

After considering the motion on Monday, Justice Akintola concluded that the claimant had effectively demonstrated the necessity of immediate judicial assistance.

He thus granted the requested interim orders, prohibiting any interference with the PDP’s timetable and activities and mandating the defendants to conduct the national convention as scheduled.

Justice Akintola also postponed the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction until November 10, 2025.

The court’s ruling, dated November 3, 2025, was issued under the official seal of the Oyo State High Court and signed by the Principal Registrar, S. O. Hammed.
