Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has announced that it has dismissed 115 staff members over the past few months, marking the second major shake-up in the country’s security apparatus in just a few weeks.
The DSS issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the dismissals, describing them as part of the organisation’s ongoing internal reforms.
Although the agency did not specify the exact timeframe, it published the names, photographs and dismissal dates of those affected on its website, showing that some of the terminations go back to April.
This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the nation’s top military leadership, a move that came amid media speculation about a possible coup plot.
The government and the military have denied those reports, insisting that the reported arrests of at least 16 officers were due to disciplinary matters, not an attempt to overthrow the government.
