A violent water dispute between two communities in Chad led to the deaths of at least 33 people and left several others injured.

The clash, which occurred in a village near the border of the Bahr-El-Gazel and Hadjer-Lamis provinces, centred on the ownership of a shared well.

Government officials and an army contingent have been deployed to the area, though local sources indicate that tensions remain high.
