The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations have announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The primary trigger for the industrial action is the Nigerian government’s prolonged failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), a demand based on a High-Level Body committee report submitted in 2022.

JOHESU stated that despite previous presidential assurances that led to the suspension of strikes in June 2023 and October 2024, the government has repeatedly failed to honour its agreements and address systemic welfare issues.

This strike, which includes nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals, is expected to cripple services across federal teaching hospitals and specialist centres.

It coincides with an existing indefinite strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), leading to a near-total shutdown of the nation’s public health system.

JOHESU has instructed its members nationwide to strictly comply with the directive until the demand for the implementation of the CONHESS is met.
