Serie A takes centre stage this weekend as Milan hosts a high-stakes city derby between Inter and AC Milan at the San Siro, while champions Napoli seek to bounce back after a frustrating start to the season.

Inter Milan lead the table on goal difference ahead of Roma and will aim to extend their strong run in all competitions, having won 11 of their last 12 matches.

Their only recent defeat came at Napoli last month, and the Nerazzurri are firmly in the Scudetto mix.

After the derby, Inter travel to Atletico Madrid, where they are eyeing a place in the last 16 after a perfect record in their European campaign so far.

Marcus Thuram could feature for Inter for the first time since September after recovering from a hamstring injury.

However, Denzel Dumfries is likely to miss the derby with an ankle problem, meaning Carlos Augusto is expected to provide width on the left flank.

AC Milan, meanwhile, welcome back Adrien Rabiot from a calf injury sustained on international duty, with coach Massimiliano Allegri hoping both he and Luka Modric will start in their first Milan derby of the season.

Milan sit third in the table behind Roma but remain within striking distance of the top.

Napoli, also with 22 points, find themselves in a tricky period following a 2-0 defeat at Bologna.

Coach Antonio Conte used the international break to cool down after publicly criticising his squad, claiming he would not “accompany the dead” and questioning the team’s spirit.

Napoli will be without key midfielder Andre-Frank Anguissa, who suffered a hamstring injury with Cameroon that will sideline him until next year, prompting demands from owner Aurelio De Laurentiis for compensation from clubs whose players are injured on international duty.

Elsewhere, Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti returns to his native Tuscany as he attempts to revive the struggling Old Lady at rock-bottom Fiorentina.

Spalletti, who began his managerial career over three decades ago at nearby Empoli, faces the challenge of turning around a Fiorentina side under new coach Paolo Vanoli ahead of Saturday’s clash.
