Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, within Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, came under attack in the early hours of Wednesday, 26th November 2025, when armed bandits stormed the community.
According to reports, members of the Kiri Vigilante Group quickly mobilised and confronted the assailants, successfully rescuing all students abducted during the invasion.
Community sources confirmed that no student remains in captivity, thanks to the rapid and coordinated response of the local security team.
Sadly, the rescue effort was not without loss. One vigilante member was killed while defending the community, and a resident, identified as a Hausa man, also lost his life in the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Authority responded to social media reports about an attack in the Kiri axis of Bunu District, Kogi State, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
In a statement issued by Omofa John, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, the council confirmed that armed bandits invaded the Kiri community in the early hours of the morning.

Security operatives were said to have immediately engaged the attackers and successfully repelled them.
The council further clarified that no schoolchildren were kidnapped during the incident, dispelling earlier concerns of a mass abduction.
Authorities, however, confirmed that two people lost their lives: one hunter and a Hausa resident, both fatally hit by stray bullets during the exchange of gunfire.
The statement further noted that:
• Joint security teams including tactical units and local vigilantes have intensified operations in the area.
• Surrounding bushes are currently being combed to ensure the attackers do not regroup.
• Normalcy has since been restored to the community, with strict monitoring ongoing to maintain public safety.
The Kabba/Bunu LGA assured residents that security agencies remain fully deployed and proactive in preventing further threats.
