Sudan’s army chief and de facto leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has called on US President Donald Trump to intervene and help end the ongoing war with the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Burhan expressed hope that Trump’s “decisive” nature could leverage regional support to stop the conflict, which began in April 2023.
While he accused “foreign actors” of prolonging the war, Burhan avoided naming the United Arab Emirates, which his government has repeatedly claimed is backing the RSF.

The war has resulted in massive displacement (12 million people) and widespread famine.
Burhan’s plea follows Trump’s recent expression of interest in the war after being urged to intervene by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
