Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has condemned sections of the club’s supporters after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was booed during Saturday’s 2–1 home defeat to Fulham, describing the jeering as “unacceptable.”
Vicario was targeted by angry fans after a costly mistake gifted Fulham their second goal, as Harry Wilson capitalised on a poor clearance to score into an empty net.
The Italian was then jeered almost every time he touched the ball, with Tottenham also booed off at half-time.
Speaking after the match, Frank said he was disappointed by the reaction from the stands, insisting that no player deserves to be treated that way during a game.
“When you are going through a difficult period, everything seems to turn against you. The second goal was a mistake from Vic, but I didn’t like the way our fans reacted straight after it happened,” he said.

“They can’t be true Tottenham fans because when you are on the pitch, everyone should support each other. I understand frustration because we desperately want to win, and fans are entitled to boo at the end of the match if they feel let down. But during the game, that kind of behaviour should not happen. For me, it is unacceptable.”
Vicario, who later apologised for his mistake, accepted responsibility for the goal and played down the impact of the criticism.
“I made an error, and I take full responsibility for it,” he said. “I tried to clear the ball but didn’t strike it properly. The booing is part of football. I am experienced and strong mentally. We cannot be affected by what happens in the stands. We apologise to the fans for the defeat. It hurts.”
There were also tense scenes at full-time, with defender Pedro Porro appearing to gesture towards supporters as he left the pitch.
Frank said he had not seen the incident clearly but added that the focus must remain on restoring calm and improving results.
Tottenham’s struggles continue, with only three wins in their last 13 matches across all competitions, leaving them down in 10th place in the Premier League.
The club have now managed just three league victories at home in 2025, and they are without a Premier League win in north London since the opening weekend of the season.
Pressure is growing on Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer after the Australian was dismissed despite guiding Spurs to Europa League glory.
Defeats to Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain recently have only intensified scrutiny on the former Brentford manager.
Fulham, who had taken just one point from five away games before Saturday, stunned the home side with two goals in the opening six minutes.
Kenny Tete opened the scoring after a deflected effort, before Vicario’s error allowed Wilson to double the lead. Mohammed Kudus pulled one back in the second half with a fine strike, but Tottenham were unable to find an equaliser.
