Bayern Munich left winger Luis Diaz struck deep into stoppage time as the club came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over St Pauli on Saturday, bouncing back strongly from their midweek Champions League defeat to Arsenal.
The Colombian forward, who missed the loss to Arsenal through suspension, rose to meet Harry Kane’s cross in the third minute of added time to put Bayern ahead for the first time in the match.
Moments later, Nicolas Jackson added a third goal to seal a dramatic win at the Allianz Arena.
The result, coupled with RB Leipzig’s 0-0 draw away to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday, means Bayern will end the weekend eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bayern were forced to recover after a shock opening goal just six minutes in when Andreas Hountondji capitalised on an error from Joshua Kimmich and outmuscled Kim Min-jae before firing past Manuel Neuer at the near post.
The champions responded with sustained pressure, striking the woodwork three times through youngsters Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof, and later Kane.

Diaz played a key role in the equaliser before the break, showing sharp awareness to tee up Raphael Guerreiro after falling in the box, allowing the defender to blast Bayern level at 1-1.
Neuer praised his team’s resilience after the match, saying, “We kept going after we went behind and were unlucky to hit the post three times. The late goals were a relief.”
Kane, who had earlier rattled the goal frame himself, was instrumental in the decisive moment, lifting a perfectly weighted ball for Diaz to glance home. Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson then wrapped things up with virtually the final kick of the game.
St Pauli had arrived in Munich after losing eight consecutive Bundesliga matches and briefly stunned the champions. Still, Bayern ultimately underlined their dominance with another late flourish, maintaining a commanding grip on the title race.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund climbed above Bayer Leverkusen into third place with a hard-fought 2-1 away win.
Aaron Anselmino opened the scoring just before half-time, powering in a header from Daniel Svensson’s cross despite close attention from two defenders. Karim Adeyemi doubled Dortmund’s lead in the second half, heading in Fabio Silva’s inviting delivery.
Leverkusen pulled one back through Christian Kofane with seven minutes remaining, but could not force an equaliser.
The sides meet again on Tuesday in Dortmund for their German Cup last-16 tie.
Julian Brandt called the league encounter “important”, adding, “It was only one of two. Playing at home will, of course, be different.”
Elsewhere, Heidenheim stunned Union Berlin with two goals after the 90th minute to snatch a 2-1 away win and climb off the bottom of the table.
Promoted Cologne earned a 1-1 draw at Werder Bremen thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from youngster Said El Mala, while Hoffenheim moved up to fifth with a convincing 3-0 home victory over struggling Augsburg.
Bayern’s late heroics, however, ensured the spotlight remained firmly on Munich, as the league leaders quickly shook off their European disappointment to march on domestically.
