Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury announced on Sunday that he plans to make his boxing comeback in 2026.
Since his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, when he fought for three of the four major world titles, Fury has not stepped into the ring.
“Been away for a while, but I’m back now, 37 years old and still punching. Nothing better to do than punch men in the face and get paid for it.” the 37-year-old posted on Instagram.
Fury previously claimed he would retire after defeating Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but he returned later that same year.
Due to his history of retiring and then reversing that decision, many doubt his latest assertion that he will retire, which has seen him achieve 34 wins in 37 fights.
Fury expressed anger at the judges’ decisions during his two losses to Usyk, who remains the only boxer to defeat him. The self-titled “Gypsy King” raised further speculation of his return around the holiday season by sharing multiple training videos on his social media.

Despite claiming he had retired from boxing, Fury has continuously been associated with a long-anticipated clash against fellow former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The two had agreed to fight in August 2021 while they held all the major world titles, but that fell through when Fury was mandated to face Deontay Wilder for a third time due to an arbitration ruling.
There were plans for both Joshua and Fury to have preliminary fights early this year before finally clashing, potentially in late summer or towards the end of 2026.
However, the recent car accident in Nigeria that injured Joshua and resulted in the deaths of two close friends and team members has likely delayed his boxing career.
If Joshua is unable to compete, Fury might pursue a third fight against WBC, WBA, and IBF champion Usyk or a matchup with WBO champion Fabio Wardley.
Defeating either of these opponents would elevate Fury to join Muhammad Ali as a three-time world heavyweight champion.
