Côte d’Ivoire coach Émerse Faé has expressed disappointment following his team’s 3-2 defeat to Egypt in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Faé said his side had prepared well but made critical mistakes at key moments that allowed Egypt to capitalise

“We are frustrated by tonight’s result. We prepared well, but we made too many mistakes at key moments to hope to beat Egypt.”

He noted that conceding the first two goals early in the match put the Elephants under significant pressure, and although they pulled one goal back, the third goal ultimately sealed their fate.

The coach acknowledged that lapses in concentration had cost his team dearly and described the errors as difficult to explain.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that the team would continue to work hard in preparation for the World Cup.

“It’s hard to explain these mistakes. We will continue to work hard as we prepare for the World Cup.”

Faé also praised his players for their determination, stating the efforts of Kessié, Fofana, and Diallo in pressing Egypt’s defence until Guéla Doué reduced the deficit.

He said that despite creating numerous chances through corners, crosses, and aerial plays, Egypt’s goalkeeper, El Shenawy, and his defence held firm until the final whistle.

Côte d’Ivoire’s elimination ends their title defence, but Faé stated that he remains focused on improving the team for upcoming international competitions.
